PRINCIPLES

We aim to help financially strapped families to stand on their own two feet. Each needy family is asked to show complete financial transparency to our fieldworkers, so that each family gets the assistance it truly needs. This targeted approach means that resources really hit the mark! Where required we provide families with services of professionals such as attorneys, social workers, and psychologists etc. We even provide childcare and afternoon activities to encourage women to enter the workforce.

VISION

There should be no more hungry people. The Torah of Israel should be loved by all Jews. Our deeds and actions are inspired by the Holy Torah in sanctification of G-d's name.

HISTORY

As a young family man and senior student at Yeshivat "Nir" in Kiryat Arba, Tzvi Edrei became acutely aware of the financial difficulties of fellow students. He took it upon himself to organize food packages in an effort to alleviate their distress. Meanwhile his brother David, also a student at the Yeshiva had begun to organize various charitable projects for avreichim in another part of the city. These students in distress, with young families to support found themselves having to subsist on a stipend of only 850 NIS per month, because they were in a joint army-yeshiva program and were forbidden to work. While Tzvi organized packages of food, David organized furniture, and baby supplies and hot tea or coffee for soldiers serving in the area. Although the brothers felt the tremendous benefit their actions were having on the community, both knew that more needed to be done. Harav Dov Lior intervened and counseled the brothers to focus their energies and set up a registered charity. Thus Hasdei Avot was born. From humble beginnings in a storage facility donated by the local municipality, Hasdei Avot has blossomed to the leading aid organization for welfare in the area.
